Paint a Spring Flower...a Primula!

This delicate looking Spring Flower is so deceptive...often it can be seen sitting, unperturbed, in a bed of snow! But how it cheers us up. The Primula (Polyanthus) I have painted, is in my back garden and alongside the yellow daffodils, it looks so pretty.
You will need:
Watercolour paper...not lighter than 140lbs
Watercolour Paints Ultramarine Violet Aureoline Yellow Ultramarine Blue
8 and 3 round brushes Liner or rigger brush

Wet the flowers (two at a time) leaving the centres dry (where the yellow will go) Mix the Violet paint and drop it into the wet area around the edges of the petals and let it run into the wet area. The paint will not run onto dry paper.
While the Violet paint is still a little damp, paint in the Yelllow centres. The edges of the two colours will blend a little. Mix Aureoline Yellow, the Ultramarine Blue and a little Violet to make a green and paint in the leaves.
While still damp paint in the veins (mix a little more violet in to make the green darker) Take a clean tissue and mop out some of the green to make lighter areas and some lighter veins.
Paint in the centre of the spring flower with a little grey (mix a little of the three colours to make a grey/green colour) and take small lines from the centre of the Primula up into the petals. Tidy up the edges of the petals with Violet paint and then taking a brush with clean water gently wet small areas of the petals and the bud and mop with your clean tissue. This will give you some light areas...always helps to give life to your painting.
